For those who have thought,
「I wanna know how to get to the Umeda Sky Building!」
「I wanna know if there are any recommended car park spaces in the area!」
then this article is for you!
Hello! WABI SABI here, to give foreign visitors the info they need in order to further enjoy Japan!
What we, the information brokers of Japan, would like to introduce to you in this article is the way to get to the scenic spot that is close to Osaka Station and Umeda Station: The Umeda Sky Building!
Now let’s get right into it!
The Umeda Sky Building Observation Deck is located in the North district of Osaka, north-west 500m of the JR Osaka Station and Umeda Stations on each line. The Observation Deck itself is built on top of a 40 story tall building.
It is also known as the Kuchu Teien Observatory (Aerial Garden Observatory).
It differs from other observatories on other tall buildings in that it is on the roof instead of being on the top floor, so there is nothing stopping your great 360 view from 170m up in the air of the downtown area of Osaka.
The Observation Deck is built upon the connecting bridge between the Sky Buildings Tower East and Tower West.
In this part, we will show you how to get to the Umeda Sky Building!
You can easily get there by walking from either Osaka Station or the Umeda Stations from each train line.
It should take you approximately 10 minutes to get to the building entrance.
When you get to the station, head towards the Grand Front Osaka South Hall that’s on the north side of the JR Osaka Station while also using a map or smartphone navigation.
However, instead of going into it, head towards the south side of the first floor and exit on the west road.
Then, walk north along the west side of the Grand Front South Building and cross the road intersection where the South Building ends and leads to the North Building to the west.
There will be stairs that lead to an underground pathway.
After walking the underground pathway, go aboveground again and the Umeda Sky Building will be right in front of you.
When Going By Car Or Bike & Parking Space Info
When going by bike or car head toward Umeda Exit of the Hanshin Expressway No.11 Ikeda Line.
Turn left at the exit, follow the road and turn right at the second traffic light at Fukushima 6 intersection.
Next, turn right in front of Ōyodo Junior High School at the 4th traffic light, then turn left at the 2nd front of Shin Umeda City, and if you pass 2 traffic lights, you will reach the parking lot entrance of the Umeda Sky Building.
The parking price is normally 500 yen for the first hour then 250 yen every 30 minutes afterwards. The price for a full 24 hours is 1800 yen.
Free Shuttle Bus Info
There is also the Osaka Westin Hotel in the same area of the Umeda Sky Building.
There is also a free shuttle bus that runs from the JR Osaka Station to the Hotel.
However, as this bus is of course intended for the use of the people in the hotel, we don’t recommend using it if you are only going to visit the Umeda Sky Observation Deck.
That being said, you will not be asked if you are staying at the hotel or have any reservations so there is no problem in using it.
During the day, it runs every 15 minutes.
However, you can’t go back to the JR Osaka Station using the shuttle bus as you will need a Queue ticket that you get by saying your room key or when you use the restaurant.
The Osaka Westin Hotel also has a parking lot which is 1000 yen for the first hour and 500 yen for every 30 minutes afterwards.
However, you can stay at the hotel for 2000 yen per night with a discount when using the hotel restaurant service.
From The Entrance Of The Umeda Sky Building To The Observation Deck
There is usually a guide that you can follow to the Kuchu Teien Observatory, but you must first head to elevator on the 3rd floor.
Then you go all the way up to the 35th floor. From there, for newcomers the way to get to it may surprise you.
Next, you will have to go up to the 39th floor using the escalator, but this escalator, that directly connects the 2 towers of the Umeda Sky Building, is inside a circular tube.
Although you can’t exactly see through the floor, it will surely be an impressionable moment. You can even see this from outside the building.
There is a ticket booth and a shop on the 39th floor. There is the indoor observatory on the 40th floor and above that is the Kuchu Teien Observatory.
